We got up at 2:30 to go out and look at the moon being orange, which it was, very nicely, and furthermore the sky was very clear and while it was quite cold out, it wasn't particularly windy. We didn't stay out for the full eclipse (which was probably about twenty minutes off by the time we went in again?) but I'm also not entirely exhausted this morning, and neither (I believe) is [personal profile] grauwulf, which is a plus given that he's got two job interviews today. Fingers are crossed...

It also looks like I get another half-wish in the form of heading down to join a group of carolers in my parents' neighborhood on thursday evening; one of my mother's neighbors has gone out with them for years, but we didn't discover their existence until the last year I spent in Falls Church. Of course, that was the year they had just added a bunch of "popular" songs (ugh!) to their songbook, but I guess one can't have everything.

I just finished my portable knitting project last night, and blocked it (first time blocking anything, actually, which is what comes of making mainly socks & arm warmers) reasonably successfully... It's this, which I liked so much I even got the recommended yarn for it. (the green stripy kind, that is) Of course, I wasn't quite paying attention, and only got two skeins, so it's two repeats smaller and one of the points is a couple rows short at the end, but I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Now to go back to working on things that aren't portable and/or require more attention to the pattern.

Also contemplating cinnamon rolls (as in baking real ones) for christmas-- my grandmother used to make up pans in advance & freeze them, ready to be thawed in the refrigerator overnight & baked in the morning.

Pioneer woman.com has a great recipe for make and freeze cinnamon rolls and a number of variations thereon.

Scott and I have a Christmas breakfast of cinnamon rolls tradition. Although, mine come from a tube. I'm sure yours taste so much better. :)

We're still working on holiday traditions-- last year I did the out of a tube-style orange rolls, which my mother made a couple times a year when I was small. That was good, but on the border of way too sweet, so I'm thinking of trying to manage something a little less overwhelming. (someone on the dreamwidth side recommended these (http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/cinammon_rolls_/) from thepioneerwoman.com, which look like a good start, but I don't have either the freezer or the counter space for seven pans worth of rolls...) Sadly, I don't know that anyone would have my grandmother's recipe, either. But I'm sure I'll come up with something. :)

I've been eying up that pattern. It looks so lovely. How was the pattern in general as in keeping-your-interest-wise, also how is Mini Mochi to knit? I've seen it advertised but haven't tried it. The color scheme reminds me of Noro Kureyon but it looks so much softer.

Also, homemade cinnamon rolls sound so good right now.

The pattern is quite simple but there's enough variation that it's not too boring and it went pretty quickly-- it was a good choice for something to work on while doing other things, particularly if you've got a safety pin to mark where to stop gussetting so you don't have to count as much. The yarn is a lovely single ply sock weight-- soft but pretty smooth-- that I liked working with. I did have a little variation in the width from time to time; it was fairly even, but with a few thick & thin places. It wasn't a problem with this pattern (particularly blocking it out sharply) but it might be a little annoying with something else.

Thank you for your input. I may have to give the pattern a try myself then. I like how it's light enough to be wrapped like a scarf. The yarn sounds lovely and something I would like trying out. I've tried Noro Kureyon sock yarn and like the worsted version it's pretty rough, but I really love the colors and the variegated width. This seems to be the same but with out the rough texture.
