Does anyone remember the context on the line about "[when] you're dead, you're dead," from Into the Woods?

It turned up in my head a couple days ago (while contemplating how little the the people in the graves are likely to care about my trying to be polite and not step on their heads, at least) and I finally figured out it was the witch who says it, but I don't know if it's the baker's wife or the narrator she's talking about, or what the lines before and after are.

How odd. I just listened to "Into the Woods" Wednesday evening. It's been... good heavens, fifteen years since I saw the musical and I don't remember the particulars.
