Do any of you doll people know of somewhere to get old-fashioned looking doll eyeglasses? I'm thinking of 1800s or early 20th century, which is to say that most everything I've seen has got large plastic frames or very modern floating lenses, and I'd rather have something wire-rimmed. (smaller SD sized preferred... probably for Waif or the Saint) Thoughts?

I know that some of the craft stores like AC Moore and Michaels will have wire frame in their doll making section. They are sd sized but I have always found the wire frames to be a bit out of scale. I'll keep my eyes open if I see any locally or on line.

Really? I'll have to look again-- the only ones I remember seeing were american girl size. If you do happen across anything else, I'd appreciate hearing about it; thanks! (You'd think with the steampunk craze there'd be non-modern glasses out there, but I guess it's all goggles.)

Hmmm... That could be the case now. This was a few years back before they moved, but the AC Moore on Ritchie Highway used to have wire framed glasses in a few sizes for teddy bears. They also had what I would call frame-less "granny" glasses in a few sizes. My last trip to the new location was a bit if a disappointment, though. They have cut out a lot of what they used to carry and expanded their scrapbooking section (it's pretty much half the store now). I would not be surprised if they now focus on American Doll style dolls rather than the whole bear and doll making craft (crafter are getting lazy now a days.... opps, you didn't hear me say that*o*). You would think that they would be easier to find. Though I don't think the whole steam punk look has really hit Asia by storm just yet and since most of what is put out is from Asia you're best bet is to hope that some of the Indie American/European artists would figure something out soon. I'll still keep my eye open. My only hesitation with the glasses used for bear and doll making is that the wires used to make the frames tends to be a bit out of scale.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not looking for wire frames but I am on the look out for 1/3 scale black framed rounds very similar to what Harold Lloyd wore in the 20's (popular frame choice for Japanese men in the forties). I think my best bet is to sculpt and then cast my own... but who has the time for that:p
