thanate: (octopus)
[personal profile] thanate
*I had a dream in which I bought a half-grown duckling with bright blue feathers at a fiber festival. Unfortunately, it got lost somewhere in my grandparents' house, and so [personal profile] grauwulf got me a new duckling out of a vending machine. It was slightly smaller, brown, very cute, and also a six or seven year old girl, who I had to teach how to zip up her raincoat, since because she was a duckling, she had never learned about zippers.

*I don't seem to want to type duckling with the k in. (I think I fixed them all.)

*Came downstairs last night to ask if, once upon a time, when the earth was without form and void, it was without form and without void, or without form and with void instead. Apparently some texts do contain a comma between the form and the and, and my HarperCollins Study Bible translates the phrase as "the earth was a formless void" which does clear up the ambiguity. However, at some point my brain failed to retain the comma, and had elided it into there being no form and no void (presumably consisting of holes or gaps in the form.) Huzzah for confusion caused by absolutely terrible translations, the King James Bible being widely recognized as one of the worst ever made.

*It is that season where it is unnecessarily hot & sticky without generally producing useful quantities of rain. The squash is wilting in the garden, and my hair needs to be washed far too often to keep it from smelling like it belongs to a goat. Ugh. But I just braided up lazy half-pigtails to keep the frizz off my neck, and I am remarkably less miserable.

*I find that my measurements and those of the silk haboti I have combine remarkably well for making a fencing-legal version of my generic early period dresses. I made 5 tears lengthwise and three width-wise along the grain of the silk, and now all I have left is sewing. Classy! Whether this will actually inspire me to fence again is an interesting question.

*Loki says "Me-erwrrr. Mauuu." Now you know.

*I have a roommate & a room reserved for Viable Paradise. Now I have to decide how to get there; my initial thought was that of course I would drive-- Camilla hasn't ever been on an island without bridges, or a ferry ride!-- but one way on the ferry is $8 for a person and $65 for a car, and I wasn't really planning on using her for anything while I was there. It's possible that it would be cheaper to fly/bus/walk (if irritating with a week's worth of luggage) but driving seems more normal, and I don't particularly care to deal with Airport Stupidity Security. There was also mention of long-term parking landward of the ferry, but I haven't found any actual info on that yet.

*Time to go pour more water on the squash now that the shade has reached it.
