I miss you, internets!
Aug. 31st, 2011 09:26 amNot dead; just came home from the aquarium on Monday afternoon to find the power out; rumor has it that BGE was busy trying to fix the other side of the next road over and managed to blow out some kind of major piece of equipment, putting the whole neighborhood in the dark. What they're admitting to is that we're promised to have power back "on or before 11:30 on September 2nd." So, yeah. There has been fun with generators, sump pumps, and refrigeration, though the groundwater levels have fallen to the point where if we empty the sump pits before bed, we've got over 8 hours before we have to worry about them again.
Construction continues, and we're assured that we're going to be under roof by this weekend (when, of course, it's supposed to rain again) and it turns out that we're going to have a 16-8 foot slope on the bedroom ceiling, so we're talking about having a loft over the closet. Very exciting, but in that way that only adds to my nervous energy, and all non-electric projects at the moment require sitting still and not even thinking too much while they nail things to the rafters and knock more plaster chips down inside the walls. My nerves, I can find them. Every single one.
On the bright side, I've met another neighbor from up the street, and talked a bit more to someone else I'd met before, who seems pretty cool (and is interested in native plants-- so I brought him one of the postcards from the native plant sale that sends me extra mailings under the name of "Brown.") As Steve-across-the-street keeps saying, it's the sort of neighborhood where people talk to each other, but aren't nosy about it. I'm still getting used to this, but it's not a bad concept.
Anyway, the library network seems to approve of my web browser but not e-mail, so please forgive me if you're trying to get in touch.
