The power actually came back on at about 4am on Thursday, but then I had a sinus headache, and then
grauwulf actually got the entire weekend off, and his company appears to believe in 4-day holiday weekends. Also, I was all ready to eat breakfast and then be terribly productive yesterday when somebody dropped the top of the chimney on my head off the old roof and onto the new sub-floor right over where I was standing in the pantry.
grauwulf has gained a greater appreciation for why I'm a bit stressed by all this; by mid-morning he was ready to bail and invent errands to get out of the house.
So, here's the week in review:
Monday, starting on the back wall of the second floor (though I think it's not up yet, here):

Tuesday, back wall up, working on the side framing & measuring:

Wednesday, 2nd floor side walls going up, and you can start to see where the new peak is going:

Here you can also see the old peak through the window they've cut out for access.

Thursday, the ridge pole is up, and the rafters along the back. Also, they left up the ladder so we could go in and poke about:

The loft (and attic access through the long wall) is going to go here.

Friday, new rafters along the front, demise of the chimney (as previously chronicled), roof plywood for the front and half the back, and a *new* giant blue tarp without any holes in it, to keep the rain off:

Also, I am going to have the coolest view ever:

Meanwhile, the idiots next door are nailing beige siding over top of the asbestos shingles, which would be ok except that true to form the head contractor has people working over a holiday weekend with no breathing protection and they're getting chips of shingle all over the yard. Also, the color makes a startling difference to the amount of light we get from that side of the house; with all the foundation plantings cut down, it looks like winter there the moment the sun goes behind a cloud. I'm waiting until they get done with the near side of the house before I go out to salvage ex-chimney bricks out of the trash pile.
