Sea Charm, now available on the Daily Science Fiction website.
They sent me the acceptance letter the day before I got the one for VP. Bios were written and a contract was signed, and then there was a long silence broken by a final chance at minor display edits the week I got back from VP. Also, while you're over there, you wouldn't do badly to check out the recent things from my fellow alums:f_wilde's Everlasting, alecausten's Volition, or John Shade's Selecting.
Speaking of milestones over which one has no control, this pro rate thing is sort of neat. Not that the amount of effort involved is really equivalent (those of you who still think publishing is a good road to fame and fortune will now go write "I am delusional" 100 times on the blackboard) but I have gotten smaller paychecks from jobs that involved going in and doing boring stuff in person. I couldn't pay my mortgage off this, of course, but it might keep me in bread and peanut butter for a nice long time.
