A Marble for the Drowning River

Interestingly, shortly after I wrote this one, I was digging out ridiculous quantities of daffodils from the back garden that no longer exists, and turned up a clear glass marble with little threads of white color running through it rather the way I'd imagined the cracks in the one from the story. (When it turns up again, perhaps I'll add a picture.)
