*working from
swan_tower's similar experiment, we find that my hair weighs aproximately .6lbs (who designs a kitchen scale to read in tenths of pounds? really?) In any case, this may be a bit higher than usual, as I'm only perhaps two months into my post-baby shedding** but based on the significant taper to the braid, grauwulf estimates that I'm carrying around at least 3/4 pound of hair.
*improvised bullet points and footnotes seem to go badly together.
*NewMortgage payments started today, after a switchover hiatus in July, and I have just paid the first six months (ie first payment plus the next five principle payments) for less than the July & August payments on the OldMortgage would have cost us. Sadly, my bank of choice doesn't have a feature allowing us to schedule payments in advance, but they do have clear and easy access to the amortization tables broken down by principal and interest, which is something the evil bank guarded with their lives. Or their labyrinthine computer system, anyway. I continue to think we've traded up. (For those of you unfamiliar with loan structures-- paying as much extra to principal at the beginning of the loan as you can afford will *significantly* reduce the life of the loan, as compound interest is structured so that you pay most of the interest up front. The more payments you can skip b/c you've paid the principal ahead of time, the less interest you end up paying.)
*the Megatherium's new favorite trick is to grab either my ear (when facing towards me) or (when facing away from me) to swing her arm out backwards until it hits my head and then curl in with her hand so as to sink fingers into hair and hang on for dear life. This is almost as much fun as staring at her mobile when I think she really probably ought to be eating something, and even more fun if we can manage both at once. Ah, babies... She's also becoming quite the accomplished sitter, though I think I may have to back off on getting her up so as to provide some incentive for her to figure out how to do it for herself.
**Speaking generally, one mostly stops losing head hair early in pregnancy, and the proportion of longer stronger strands increases. This lasts for somewhere around a year, after which you start losing both the normal amount of hair and that which you would otherwise have lost the previous year, leading to unsuspecting mothers going "aah! my hair is all falling out!"

Date: 2013-08-05 02:28 pm (UTC)It is amazing how crappy the web interfaces of mortgage banks are, and how generally inept they can be at taking your money (speaking from our unfortunate mortgage swapping experiences recently). Glad yours is happier now.

Date: 2013-08-05 07:58 pm (UTC)Yeah-- OldBank bought out the people who bought out the initial mortgage on this house, and while I never had trouble scheduling the actual payment, both logging in to their website and trying to get actual loan info were often like pulling teeth. Also, they spent inordinate amounts of website space on trying to get us to look up account info for accounts we didn't have and (based on their other incompetencies) had no interest in opening. I hope your own difficulties are also sorted out.
