*I am on my 5th flat tire in this darn car. (This one is actually legitimate with nail holes. The last three (with two at once) were valve stem issues caused by a poor combination of design decisions, so nobody's exactly fault really. And the first one was the bit with sliding sideways into a cliff on a dirt/gravel road and getting a bit of gravel stuck where it unsealed the tire from rim, so it just needed to be reset. But still, I had just about got out of the PTSD spectrum of worrying that all weird noises/road bumps are the tires coming apart.)
*Speaking of PTSD, it's ancient history now, but if you didn't read Myke Cole's essay about it, you should. Basically summed up: PTSD is where your brain hypes up panic responses to deal with a situation where it needs them, and then you stop needing them but it takes forever to adapt back. (In some cases "forever" means you don't get there.) And I said, Oh! like the thing I had with the tires. That makes sense. Fortunately, flat tire paranoia is in no way comparable to worrying that somebody's going to blow you up.
*The Dance of the Little Mammals continues.
*I can't believe I haven't typed about the little red car yet!
*The weather thinks it's fall, and I am all in favor except for the rapidly becoming a tree-killing drought (for values of tree that weren't already half-dead) and the fact that little miss wiggles-a-lot is going to have to spend the winter sleeping in a snowsuit now that she's demonstrated her ability to wiggle her way out of a swaddling blanket in her sleep.
*We find that the Arlington Cemetery waitlist is up to at least 6-1/2 months (from the 5 months projected in May) but we have a funeral date in early December as of about two weeks ago. Present discussion includes what to put on the niche cover and whether to resurrect the First Church of Grauwulf Ministry or put in a "late" request for a Navy chaplain to officiate at a funeral with full military honors.
*Have membership for World Fantasy Con next year. (2014; it's in DC/Crystal City!) (I hope-- so far I have a receipt from paypal, but not from WFC...) Will be there w/ bells on. Or at least really exciting boots or something. Will maybe even have regained sufficient brain to see if I can request a reading.
*If grauwulf were to start having a game days to play old Avalon hill games, would any of you semi-locals be interested in coming for either that or to hang out w/ me & the Megatherium while others play? This will not be a large group extravaganza, but apparently there are Battles Over Britain that must be had, & it would be nice to see some people & socialize the baby a little.
