*The minute one continues to have Opinions. Most of them are compatible with reality. She's even developing a limited sense of self-preservation, although it doesn't yet include the concept of crawling off edges.
*I have planted my chestnut tree with large amounts of the leaf mulch pile cut in to its back-dirt and am hoping that the 35+ year old (possibly at least twice that?) coal ash pit I discovered upon digging the hole won't still be toxic to it. (The old gas heater was at least installed by the 80s, and there was oil before that, so I'm not sure when the coal was a thing. The composting books I've been reading tell me that I ought to avoid it like the plague, tho.)
*There is some possibility that we will all be in Mountain View for a week or so in probably early November around a work thing for grauwulf. I have no idea how the Megatherium will react to time zone changes, and I'm a little freaked out by the idea of modern airport nonsense with a proto-toddler who's increasingly more aware of her surroundings, but assuming we survive all that I suspect we'll have a bunch of time in which we might be able to meet people for lunch or things. Since I know about as many friend-like people in the SF area as I do in DC/Baltimore... There are also liable to be a few days scheduled to sight see with grauwulf, so if you're interested in joining us at the Monterrey Bay aquarium or to see redwoods or something, that would be nice, too. (Also recent travel with infant tips & what one ought to do about car seats (transport ours? are there rental options? if so, are they a horrible idea?) would be appreciated.)
*Opinionated baby requires attention. More someday.

Date: 2013-10-07 03:05 am (UTC)we have flown a lot.... it's not that bad, and if you have her in a carrier of some type they won't even make you take her out, they just test your palms after you go through the metal detector. for the flight, basically, bring some books and toys and at least one favorite/new of each to engage more attention. take lots of extra diapers because you never know what'll happen (we had a flight cancelled on us and had to stay an extra night once). in terms of flight times and naps, every baby is different... ours is awful if she doesn't sleep enough before the flight or if you wake her up out of her nap in order to get into her seat on the plane. we've had her carseat with us on the plane for all of the flights so far, but she hasn't stayed in it all the time each time because she has been asleep in a carrier a couple times, and then wanted to nurse a couple other times. in terms of carseat rental, most car rental companies should have carseat options for rent, i think? there are also companies that rent out things like swings and playpens etc., and they might also have carseats. good luck with the whole flying thing... it will hopefully be simpler than you think!

Date: 2013-11-01 03:19 am (UTC)It turns out that we're not going out this time after all-- we would have just ended up going for basically a long weekend, which seemed like a pretty short time to bother dragging a baby across the continent for. But there are likely to be later rounds, so we should get out there sometime.
