[personal profile] thanate
Monday night I skipped yoga on the grounds that activities that involve a great deal of hanging one's head upside-down are probably not the thing with stuffed-up sinuses, and sneezing all over people was unlikely to win me friends. I subsequently dreamt that I had shown up late only to discover that we had a mid-term (which despite protesting that I was sick, I was forced to take) based on a textbook I hadn't bothered to read. Fortunately one segment of the test was on flint knapping, which I was able to answer easily. (For the record, none of the rest of the test had anything to do with yoga, either.)

The library has obtained for me the lovely book from this fascinating review and I am reading it with much fascination. In between having to take naps, that is, but I assure you that's a function of being sickish rather than a reflection on the book itself. The vocabulary outlined in the first chapter alone is worth the time to fill out the interlibrary loan request, as it's full of fascinating little bits of etymology: for instance, a commons is a type of wood-pasture wherein the lord owns rights to the timber (large trees, as opposed to wood, which is the small stuff) but where commoners are allowed to graze their animals.

I clicked a link from one of the craftster sidebar ads this morning (I know! But they're actually getting interesting...) and am now, despite knowing that I love perfume descriptions and hate most perfumes, strangely tempted by Seagull eating a Starfish. I mean, what's not to love? (assuming they did not actually produce a good likeness of the dead fishy smell of the tideline, of course...) I'd be somewhat tempted by the vanilla campfire one, too, except that they put patchouli in it. (bother you, internet, why can't I get smell samples over you? I mean, without buying an actual sample which I will then hate & have to keep locked up where it doesn't stink at me?)

Also, I continue to be wistful for an alternate reality in which it seems like a good idea to go to World Fantasy con this weekend. (I mean, lots of people I'd love to get to sign books for me will be there...) Not only is it in Ohio, expensive, and full of people none of whom I actually know (hence, I'd likely spend all weekend not interacting with them, as demonstrated by the last three cons I tried to go to), but going out with the dregs of a cold makes such a thing an even worse idea. Oh, and I'm spending most of next week out of town (planting tidal marsh plants in VA beach) so, not entirely the best planning.
