thanateToday has been more or less a complete wash in terms of both writing (about half a sentence) and everything else; I woke up with a headache and didn't manage to drag myself out of bed until around 10:30, after which I accomplished laundry, renewing a library book, and finishing the second sweater sleeve until such time as the body catches up with them. The headache more or less went away, but it took my productivity with it.
Eventually I gave up feeling guilty about it and started re-reading Daughter of Time, which I am doing because the Enoch Pratt Free Library has kindly sent me a copy of The Dragon Waiting to read, and it was suggested that this would be a good start at basic orientation to some of the mad political tangle of the time. (I am beginning to appreciate the Enoch Pratt Free Library quite a bit; not only do they have some nice obscure things in their collection, but they tend to get them to me in two or three days, which is pretty well instant gratification for interlibrary loan. Being physically closer than most of my county's library branches probably doesn't hurt, of course.)
At any rate, I am reading about Inspector Grant rediscovering that Richard III was quite a good king and not actually guilty of anything but being usurped, and remembering what Terry Jones had to say about Richard II in building his case about Chaucer. There is some rather interesting family resemblance there... and then Grant has a bit where he's musing about medieval England and how it was all little cleared plots of land with a great house & a little village surrounded by the green vastness of woodland, which is also remarkably revisionist given all that bit about coppicing and woodland management. In my brain, this has become a much deeper book than it was when I was twelve or so and reading it for the first time, which I suppose is also appropriate as a precursor to reading Ford...
