thanateI am now the proud (well, perhaps excited would be a better adjective) owner of a 10x15 fishsafe rubber pond liner, for which I don't yet get to dig a hole in the ground because we still need to get the stupid old oil tank out from under the porch. Grauwulf thinks we can do this all by ourselves this weekend. I hope that this is in fact true, and that attempting it will not cause either injuries or floods of older-than-we-are heating oil across my garden. (um... for the purposes of clarification, it should also be noted that I am not digging a pond under the porch. It's just that getting the tank out will become noticeably less possible after I've dug the hole for the pond. Also, I want the space under the porch for potting shed & trash can storage, so that these do not end up in said pond at moments of high wind.)
In any case, my brain has begun going plants-plants-plants all the time, with occasional intervals of garden maze designs and wondering what animals I can lure into my yard with plants and ponds and things, which would be fine if I weren't still twelve chapters out on my last-for-now novel revision with a synopsis & a query letter to tweak and a lovely stack of books to read including a beta I'm kind of excited about. And a bunch of e-mails to return and laundry to do, and all that ordinary stuff...
Yesterday was grauwulf-day, and instead of a birthday cake he requested unicorn poop cookies, so much goopy, doughy, food coloring mess was made, followed by glittering and starring. Also of note, this is what happens when you spend all your time seeking out edible glitters and forget to stock up on stick-margarine:
The colors come out much more crisp if they're frozen before going into the oven. But they still taste like sugar cookies, and fun was had by all.
