Grauwulf watched the debate the other night, while I went upstairs and hid and read a book that I found annoying enough to take back to the library without reading the last quarter or so. (Admittedly, it was also due tomorrow.) As I've said before, while I was definitely raised to believe that all thinking persons ought to pay attention and involve themselves in politics, I cannot remember a time when I didn't have an antipathy for politics and current events. My interest in history in general mostly checks out around the civil war; while there are definitely things of interest in the intervening time, I even have a hard time engaging with most fiction set in semi-modern, semi-real-world scenarios. This is probably a personality flaw on my part, but the interminable US election cycle is kind of my idea of hell.

In any case, I came downstairs with the beginnings of the ghastly headache from yesterday at almost eleven to find the TV still on with post-debate commentary going, and grauwulf tried to convince me that I ought to watch the debate instead of getting other people's digested views. I explained that I couldn't imagine anything Romeny might have to say that could induce me to vote for him at this point; as far as I'm concerned the only question left is how secure MD's electoral college votes are, and therefore whether I need to vote for Obama, or am free to look into whether there's a third party candidate I actually think would do a better job. If I were still in VA, there probably wouldn't be any question about this. (Though, I was so proud of them last time...)

Someone on twitter just posted a link to someone else's Why I will not be voting Republican for the forseeable future, which pretty much sums it up. My talking points would have been slightly different-- I hadn't even heard about the secession thing, and I would put environmental stewardship right up there with truth and education as something we really can't afford to do without, but yeah. (I was just telling grauwulf the other day that I'd like to see more bumper stickers along the lines of "Support our Troops/ with better healthcare, not earmarked spending.") I am also increasingly of the opinion that those who ally themselves with the current incarnation of the Republican party are not people I want in charge of my future, no matter what other potentially sound ideas they may also hold.

Tomorrow we're going to go help pull large amounts of Baltimore's trash out of the marsh next to Fort McHenry and then perhaps look into taking the water taxi around the harbor because all the VP staff members have been posting pictures of their trips on the island ferry. It's not the same, but apparently Fells Point is being all festive this weekend, so that might be nice to go see.
