thanate*Large carnivorous dinosaur newly discovered in northern Africa. It's about of a size with T-rex, and they named it after Sauron. (There's a certain moral judgement there that I don't think actually applies to most large carnivores, and I quibble with some of their semantics on "newness" of long-extinct species, but that's just me being picky.)
*Relatedly, How to eat a triceratops, in which paleontologists at the Museum of the Rockies study their collections to good effect.
*And some modern carnivores (this theme is purely coincidental, I assure you!) Video of hallowe'en enrichment at a large cat rescue. Four minutes of great cats vs pumpkins. Yay!
*And unrelated to carnivores, kids being brilliant. One Laptop Per Child dropped off a couple boxes of laptops in two illiterate Ethiopian villages with nothing on them but learning software & remote monitoring capability. Five months later, not only was everyone reading & programming, but some kid had worked out how to hack into the OS to turn the camera back on.
*Career advice for cats & foxes, or another take on the persistent "what do you want to do when you grow up?" I more or less worked this one out eventually, but it's good to have people say it.
*Wrens vs Cuckoos in Australia... Fairy Wrens sing to their eggs, and expect the chicks to repeat the "password" note after hatching.
