The Megatherium went through a phase last fall or so where she went through most of the library's juvenile collection on mummification. Today she began by asking me if people in Egypt still get mummified, and we had a long conversation about modern ways of dealing with the dead, and some other traditional ones and ended up looking at ship burial pictures on pinterest. There's a whole genre of Viking-era reenactors dressing up in their finery & cosplaying burials. Now she's drawing her own ship burial "that's actually buried." Sadly, the library is not as good a resource on ship burials as it is on mummification, but I ordered a bunch of viking books, so we should be able to find something.

I suspect it is of no particular surprise to anyone that I find when I go to a baby sale for a child whose drawers are full to bursting with clothes that fit her (I needed next-size-up shoes, but that was it) that I ended up spending 45 minutes and $60+ on books, several of which are not coming out until I have a child who can read them herself. But I also spend the weekend reading a couple of my own books, since the Megatherium was sick and uninterested in anything but being glued to the tablet watching Daniel Tiger. (sigh)

Grauwulf is settling in at the new-we-hope-good job, I have had the house to myself for 4-1/2 hours so far this week (yay!), and we dug a hole in the backyard to sink the tub I got last year to make a lotus pond. It's now partly filled, with lotus-growing bucket; I even did a pretty good job of getting it in level despite eyeballing it on the slope, so now all I need is to get the lotus seeds to germinate. (They didn't last year, but recommended best time to try is mid-may, so I still have a while for the pondlet to settle first.) We harvested rocks out of the hole and also turned up a broken lead toy/ornament that appears to be a wagon, now folded in half. I let M clean it on condition that she washed her hands thoroughly afterwards, and she was quite delighted.

I've been making punk (unicornate winged) ponies for the Megatherium & friends: the first few are up on Craftster here since I made the first few & discovered that their April Fool's site makeover this year was unicorns.

I am glad to hear many of these things. May you have as many hours this next week to yourself, or more!
