going aviking
Apr. 15th, 2018 10:52 pmWhen I came back from the farmers' market this morning grauwulf was flipping through channels trying to find the Megatherium some cartoons that weren't the same Doc McStuffins video she got out of the library & has seen sixteen times already when she said, "Look! My grandma's on the TV!" Which was indeed the case. Some local access channel was rebroadcasting a program a bunch of people from the DC area storytelling guild recorded in 2011, which means that probably my father was on it before that and we just missed him.
A few hours after that, grauwulf found the source of the mysterious smell I thought was coming from the kitchen, as it turned out the sewer outflow backed up into the basement utility sink, & as he had been feeling irritable and frustrated *before* having to deal with that, the Megatherium & I quit the house so as not to make anything harder, and ended up at the mall all afternoon.
She met a similar-sized girl & made fast friends in the little play area there and they raced around being zombies and/or getting various slightly older boys to chase them, which was apparently entirely fascinating to all parties for a good half-hour or more. (My child was the very blondest one present, but the girl she was playing with looked middle eastern, & I'm super proud that "kid her size" is the most important factor for playground-made friendships, despite being sad that I have any reason to think about this.)
We also picked up a mini-pack of Lego Friends figures (& a tiny campsite) since I got two lots of school & cafe bits at the thrift store a while back which included 4 torsos, 4 hair pieces, a turban, one head, and no legs. So we needed some people with heads & legs. I've sort-of offered to make a mermaid tail for the other headed torso; if that works out, perhaps I'll have a go at making some extra heads as well. We'll see.
Anyway, a real plumber was called, the house is un-stinkified & draining properly, the weekend is almost over, and we are having the first decent amount of rain in about three weeks. No one has yet nuked DC for being run by morons even. Onward.
