My child, after some waffling regarding what she wanted to be for hallowe'en, decided that I was not allowed to make her a costume because she wants to wear her friend's (rather too small) Elsa dress-up to go trick-or-treating in. I am trying not to be offended. Fortunately, for all her other dress up & show off occasions she went in the Princess Magnolia dress I made her last year, now with the zipper fixed, and which she is now competent enough to manage bathrooms in, despite the giant skirts.

So instead of costume sewing, I've been making arty little flags encouraging people to vote. There's a round-up of a bunch of them on craftster here. I've already put up some locally, but am hoping to get some into Baltimore this weekend, and probably into the hands of other people at World Fantasy Con.

I really want to be excited about WFC, but grauwulf is having health issues again (still? always? This time there are traceable bloodwork indicators for a virus) and I have a cold the Megatherium brought home with her. Now, if it works like her cold did for her, I will be coughing unsettlingly but also bouncing off the walls in the next day or two, so maybe I'll have a fabulous time? This seems moderately unlikely, but who knows. Perhaps I will be gloriously inspired by reconnecting with the writing community and start up a nanowrimo tracker on Monday. Perhaps I will just get to see some friend-like people I haven't seen in a few years and that will be ok, too.

Either way, I'm already considering trying to do a collection of flags-or-something for inclusiveness and/or not hating thy neighbor, which is something my particular suburb could use. I just got a letter from one of the local candidates today in which she went on about how as a mom and long-time resident she's super concerned to see our area "targeted" for rehab clinics; I can understand concern at the need for a proliferation of rehab clinics, but the idea that nobody in our neighborhood could possibly need such a thing, so it's just importing unsavories is an attitude I could do without. And there's a history of lawn signs around here about "STOP the xyz!!", most of them exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness. (This particular candidate was already crossed off my list, since I went through my specimen ballot with a red pen the day I got it & crossed off anyone with an R with prejudice. I am probably not actually going to write in "No Award" for judge of the Orphan's Court that's "pick 3" with 3 Rs & 2 Ds running.)
