"three things that I may not know or care about" meme, via sovay (and it says rather a lot about my current blog usage that I have forgotten how to tag people with html)

Fountain pens.
My father was a fountain pen person; he delighted in restoring antique snorkel pens, after having worked with submarine-sized snorkels at the beginning of his Navy career. I have inherited a few of those, and some ink, but despite vaguely wanting to be excited about them I find I'm really more of a gel pen and good ballpoint kind of person.

Phases of the moon.
When the moon is full it shines through my bedroom window directly onto my face at about 2 am, so I need to remember to close the curtains enough to prevent that. (presently that curtain stays mostly shut so as not to distress the mourning doves nesting on the pergola-- unlike the doves of the last two years, this pair has actually hatched chicks!) Otherwise, I don't generally keep track other than observing the moon when it's visible.

Moss.
Moss is awesome! Most ancient of land plants and also deeply bizarre compared to complex plants, and we are low enough in the watershed here that it is happy to grow on stuff. My neighbor cuts his grass down to about an inch tall regularly, and so a bunch of the wetter areas of his yard are actually mostly moss; I read an article semi-recently about people making air-cleaning moss pillars in some urban area partly on the grounds that they actually set far more carbon than most plants, and so I don't feel too bad about the mistreatment of the boring lawn grass.

Anybody else want 3 things?

I'm so glad I asked!

How lovely that you have mourning-dove chicks in your pergola! P.

That's even better in some ways! Wrens just crack me up. They are so pugnacious. I once walked my cat on his leash under a tree that happened to have a large flock of migrating house wrens in it, and they were so affronted they sounded like an entire miniature typesetting facility of some kind. Tacketa tacketa tacketa how dare you was the general message.
