So I've been thinking about this Christmas CD thing. And this will be the 3rd year I've done it (yay easy presents for grandparents!) and the first year [which, like many early recording efforts, we will all now forget about] was themed (12 days of christmas, plus christmas eve & twelth night & extras, so one song assigned to each day, with some measure of tie-in: "we 3 kings" for 12th night, "I heard the bells" for christmas day, etc.) And last year I'd just finished NaNo, so I did things in a relatively short time and they were much better but un-themed. And my favorite track from last year's was "personent hodie" which I did entirely a capella, harmonizing with myself. (so cool!! you make two of you, and all of a sudden you sound so much better!) And one of the playlists I've been writing to is about a third mediaeval baebes, and I've been listening to them and thinking that I could totally find a whole bunch of stuff with two or three lines within soprano & alto range and do a whole album a capella.
which is a lot more singing (and I always have to re-record everything at least once before it sounds good, plus the learning the lines well enough to sing them, even if I'm singing along with a midi, and even if I already know the melody line) but might be worthy anyhow. I'll have to contemplate. contemplate, contemplate.
and... it's not exactly christmas, but I shall have to do "alma redemptoris mater" because I still need to learn it. It is too late to take it to faire as the ragamuffin and follow Chaucer (yes, at ren faire...) around singing it, but still.
Anyway, we finished at the site today, so I'll be in the lab tomorrow (arriving at a modest 8 am) and next week will probably be out at the new Dulles South thing, which is supposedly highly urgent, so people are being thrown at it with great abandon. Do you feel abandoned? Yeah, me too. Um. I should be going to fencing now.
