the project is drawing to a close, although we probably won't be quite done tomorrow, and this week I am in the room with Tara's ghost. (Tara woke up one morning and swore she saw a woman standing next to the connecting door, her hands at her sides, staring down at the floor, but when she looked again the woman was gone. This disturbed her terribly, even in recounting it later on in the day, so I pelted her with chocolate, which improved matters.) At any rate, I'm now in the same room, and regard the possibility of a ghost with some curiosity.
(I was asked a few years ago if I believed in ghosts, by someone who deserved a real answer, and what I came up with was something along the lines of "well, not really; I don't actually believe in much of anything, but I'm kind of superstitious in practice." Which probably made rather more sense to me than anyone else, but whatever. No I don't particularly believe in ghosts, but I think it's kind of cool to have a potentially haunted room. By someone as non-threatening as a woman who looks at the floor, at least.)
So I was woken up in the middle of the night by something going clunk rather loudly on the other side of the room. It might have been the ghost; it might have been the refrigerator. I promised it that if it would be quiet and let me go back to sleep, I'd sing to it later.
