I have finally (as in all the relevant stuff has been sitting in a pile that rotates from floor to chair to sofa to desk to cedar chest top depending on where I need it not to be at any given moment for weeks now) done my taxes. Turbo-tax wants me to have a far more complicated life than I do.

The rest of the house smells foully of burnt grease (not the food sort) from my father's attempt to make the flue in the fireplace work properly. I am very very glad my door blocks most air dispersal, and is almost always closed.

It is finally raining. My car will appreciate it; the poor thing needed a bath desperately. Why is it the highway departments around here seem to regard salt as not only a wonder-drug of which more is always better, but an apparent substitute for actually ploughing the snow?

Radical thought: I took my car to the carwash for the first time ever this weekend. It is now far shinier than I can remember seeing it before. Presumably the underside is somewhat desaltified too, which was kind of the point of the exercise, but not as impressive to the casual observer as actually having glossy paint. Weird.

Taxes I have not done. Taxes. Huh.

I went to a car wash once, and thought it fairly unsatisfactory. It didn't get all the squashed bugs off the bumper. I probably will go to another one, but don't want to do it until the winter/salty road season is closer to over. And actually, aside from the undercarriage part, which I think commercial stuff does better, I was kind of thinking of finding a high school fundraiser car wash, so it'll actually get scrubbed. (ok, not that I couldn't do this myself, but I know I'd never get around to it...)
