So after a disappointing quest last night for the new Martha Wells book, Gate of the Gods, which I wish to hoard and drool over as I write my novel (of three bookstores, only one had yet recieved a copy-- one copy, that is-- and they'd sold it already) I instead bought the new Patricia McKillip book, which is a collection of short stories, and thus vastly more dangerous. I mean, it doesn't take all day to read a short story. Just one would be ok, right?

Anyway, I spent the morning writing a vastly depressing scene set in the Sumerian/Babylonian/whatever underworld (depressing because it's a pretty depressing place) and I think it is now time to go and create the evil thing that was spawned by the combination of several conversations in the field this week: Zerg Barbie! (a la Blizzard's "christmas Kerrigan" ads the year that Brood Wars came out)

So my grand plan involved 3 plotlines, each of which with 7 chapters, and with two intro chapters, and a chapter or two of wrap-up at the end, this comes to 2K per chapter to make the 50K deadline.

Well, chapter 1 was pretty short, but it doesn't really count, since I wrote it before this thing started, anyway. Chapter 2 came in two words short of 2K, so far so good. Chapter 3 is up to 2.7K, which makes up for the shorter first one, I guess. But then Chapter 4 is 2.6K, and Chapter 5 involves I don't know how many different Native American scenes and characters, which is all going to take up a lot of space. And while admittedly there's no reason to stop at 50K if I'm not done yet, and while I'm not acutally working I can write a whole lot, but the trend is kind of disturbing, especially for me, as I tend to be somewhat of a minimalist in length of story to express my point.

Of course, it's November 3, so what in the world am I doing trying to analyze my progress already?
