Yes, and the budget of everyone trying to raise a child. Write to your senators & congressperson! And tell your neighbors about it. Please!

This is really disturbing. To the point that I'm considering going to my senators office. This is so fantastically stupid that people should be organizing.

*shakes head in disgust*

The horrible thing is how few people have any idea this is going on. A lot of the people who have heard about it *are* up in arms, but I'm pretty sure most parents who depend on second hand things to raise their kids have no idea this is coming down.

But, I mean, how many americans do raise their kids with all new stuff? And aren't they the ones who don't need to worry about hard economic times, anyway? I was kind of thinking about writing to radio stations or something, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

contact the toy foundation (you have the link) which is working on this, they often have PSA's ready for people to distribute. Standard radio stations are troubling because they often do psa's late at night. College radio and local NPR (which is what I assume you were thinking of) may be better.

I'm going to look into it tonight / at lunch.

Also I wonder if local news stations would be willing to do stories on this? I wonder if the local shops are even aware? I haven't noticed any fliers at the thrift shops.... It's so late in the game, I hope that it can be stopped. Especially in the middle of a recession? Come on people.

I'm thinking less about PSAs than about getting the attention of the talkative personality type radio announcers, who'll get all excited about some idea and mention it all day. But I don't listen to those radio stations, so I don't know who they are.

But yeah, there really should be a week's worth of features about this on Marketplace, too.

I hate to say it, but musicians may be a good avenue too. Mobilize the punk cabaret *grin*

I ~really~ need to stop cross posting this stuff and get back to work.

Well, no. Even though Harris can afford to keep Dominic in mostly new items doesn't mean we aren't concerned with the economy. Especially with the new president's government spending policies having a high chance of killing his job and the housing market putting us in a very hard spot if his job does vanish. We're doing alright at the moment, better than some, but we're also painfully aware that it could all come crashing down at any moment. So yeah, we want to protect the companies and businesses that provide services to people that really need less expensive items for their children as we may need them ourselves.

But I know you guys use second-hand items as well. Sorry-- I'm thinking of the people who refuse to buy used because it's not "good enough" for their kid. And yes, there's always the problem of what happens when you have a recession, and everyone has to start watching a few more pennies than they did before. It's the most idiotic time to be looking at something like this.
