Today is brought to you by How to calculate your wedding's carbon footprint, and related topics. I'm not so sure on their formula; if I have four people on the same flight, why does that count 4 times? And I don't use any more electricity in hotel rooms than I would at home, so it's just changing whose power grid the electricity is used on...

Oh well. I'm running through the list of caterers (a thing I meant to do ages ago) and crossing most of them off as way too upscale. There are a couple I want to talk to, though, before making a final decision whether to manage the food myself, sacrifice some elegance on drinks, and make someone else deal with the end-of-party take-down. I have learned that, should I hire the caterers who did the Inaugural Luncheon (and presumably pay them some astronomical sum of money) I could have elegant dinner dishes consisting of pretty green soup served in bowls that are nested in the middle of a plate of growing grass complete with real dirt for each place setting. I feel that food is not actually this important to me, and besides, we're not having place settings.

Only nine more websites to look at. Sigh.

See... being I'm an SCA geek (and you are sort of, right) I have a few cook friends that are really good at this. Do you have any friends that are out of work that would like to maybe cater it for you? SCA cooks can do it up good for reasonable prices usually. I helped cater AND photograph (NEVER WILL I DO THAT AGAIN) a wedding of a friend. It was pretty good. Just a thought.

I can't imagine how expensive that is.

One of the better-best weddings I ever went to was done at a Chinese restaurant. But then again, Bride and Groom were Asian. And well, I can probably eat Chinese or any variation of it daily. I heard it was reasonable too.

Good luck with your planning. I DO NOT envy you with your plans.

heh, yeah. All I really want are cheese and sausage trays, but I've got a guest who is deathly allergic to fish and pork (as in, visits to the emergency room if she touches someone who has eaten them in the last 48 hours) so meats have to be kosher, and I'd really like tea and possibly coffee urns, which start to make things a little more difficult for the normal person planning. And the SCA cook I was vaguely considering asking about how she'd feel about such a thing just moved out of the area, so no-go. I could probably network to find someone (I've got friends who have friends) but I'm insufficiently networking-motivated. It is sad.
