Today is brought to you by How to calculate your wedding's carbon footprint, and related topics. I'm not so sure on their formula; if I have four people on the same flight, why does that count 4 times? And I don't use any more electricity in hotel rooms than I would at home, so it's just changing whose power grid the electricity is used on...
Oh well. I'm running through the list of caterers (a thing I meant to do ages ago) and crossing most of them off as way too upscale. There are a couple I want to talk to, though, before making a final decision whether to manage the food myself, sacrifice some elegance on drinks, and make someone else deal with the end-of-party take-down. I have learned that, should I hire the caterers who did the Inaugural Luncheon (and presumably pay them some astronomical sum of money) I could have elegant dinner dishes consisting of pretty green soup served in bowls that are nested in the middle of a plate of growing grass complete with real dirt for each place setting. I feel that food is not actually this important to me, and besides, we're not having place settings.
Only nine more websites to look at. Sigh.

Date: 2009-03-05 08:19 pm (UTC)(oh, and I keep forgetting to send you a note to say the eyes showed up, and they look great in my floating Genji head, of all things.)

Date: 2009-03-05 08:13 pm (UTC)I can't imagine how expensive that is.
One of the better-best weddings I ever went to was done at a Chinese restaurant. But then again, Bride and Groom were Asian. And well, I can probably eat Chinese or any variation of it daily. I heard it was reasonable too.
Good luck with your planning. I DO NOT envy you with your plans.

Date: 2009-03-05 08:22 pm (UTC)If you cannot find a caterer who can meet your needs, I would suggest that you get in touch with one of the SCA cooks who live in the area. I'm certain that you would be able to find someone who would charge a reasonable rate and deliver a good reception which you can look back on fondly.

Date: 2009-03-05 08:32 pm (UTC)Is there anyone you'd recommend, SCA-wise? I was thinking about asking Vitha, but then she moved... We're up against about three different events, but they're mostly small and/or distant.

Date: 2009-03-05 09:33 pm (UTC)Question (as this will probably come up) - will only food be monetarily covered, or are you & Mel thinking of covering food + time + a little extra? The cost would probably still be much, much less than most professional caterers.

Date: 2009-03-06 05:17 am (UTC)Timeframe would be Sunday, April 26th, "serving" from shortly after noon until 3:30-ish. Heavy grazing type foods, no place settings or anything; the site has a galley-style counter & sink near their giant buffet table, but no real kitchen. Thanks for offering-- I know that I've probably met other people who do good food, but I don't even really know who all they are.
