Today is brought to you by How to calculate your wedding's carbon footprint, and related topics. I'm not so sure on their formula; if I have four people on the same flight, why does that count 4 times? And I don't use any more electricity in hotel rooms than I would at home, so it's just changing whose power grid the electricity is used on...

Oh well. I'm running through the list of caterers (a thing I meant to do ages ago) and crossing most of them off as way too upscale. There are a couple I want to talk to, though, before making a final decision whether to manage the food myself, sacrifice some elegance on drinks, and make someone else deal with the end-of-party take-down. I have learned that, should I hire the caterers who did the Inaugural Luncheon (and presumably pay them some astronomical sum of money) I could have elegant dinner dishes consisting of pretty green soup served in bowls that are nested in the middle of a plate of growing grass complete with real dirt for each place setting. I feel that food is not actually this important to me, and besides, we're not having place settings.

Only nine more websites to look at. Sigh.

I'm not making the food; it's more a question of whether I get someone to cater everything, or order pre-made trays of snacky party type foods, which is all I want anyway.

Is there anyone you'd recommend, SCA-wise? I was thinking about asking Vitha, but then she moved... We're up against about three different events, but they're mostly small and/or distant.

If you want, I can get you in touch with some of the cooks in House Ravenstreet. Vitha is one of Tirloch's apprentices, but he has two others, plus there are a few other cooking types in the household. Just let me know and I can inquire on your behalf, especially since it sounds as if you are looking for something fairly simply - yes?

Question (as this will probably come up) - will only food be monetarily covered, or are you & Mel thinking of covering food + time + a little extra? The cost would probably still be much, much less than most professional caterers.

Oh - and time frame, so I can possibly check on availability for you?

I'm not about to ask someone to donate time to my wedding, so yes, paying someone for time & travel and all that would be expected. Mostly my problem with caterers is that I can't just say: "I want cheese & sausage trays, maybe some fruits and veggies, drinks, and a cake if you do them," because they want me to be more upscale. And we have some weird dietary issues (mainly a crazy-severe allergy to fish & pork, but a couple other things to avoid) that make standard party trays a bit of a hassle.

Timeframe would be Sunday, April 26th, "serving" from shortly after noon until 3:30-ish. Heavy grazing type foods, no place settings or anything; the site has a galley-style counter & sink near their giant buffet table, but no real kitchen. Thanks for offering-- I know that I've probably met other people who do good food, but I don't even really know who all they are.

I'll drop a line to the Ravenstreet peeps (and I can talk to some of them at KASF) and see if anyone might be available for that day.
